Junior Livestock Auction… and more!

Tres Pinos, CA – The Fair kicks off today with the excitement of the Junior Livestock Auction. It’s an action-packed event with a fast-talking auctioneer, fast-flying bids and a lot of proud kids who will take home some well-earned money.

More than 260 animals, from rabbits to beef, will be auctioned off… bringing in more than $1 million.

The auction culminates with the Heritage Hog. 18-year-old Christine Gastello, of Cienega 4-H, is this year’s recipient. She’ll receive a $1,000 scholarship for raising the prize pig, Bob. Christine plans to attend college next year and become a nurse.

“I really love the auction and the Fair. Saying goodbye to Bob… it’s a little bit of sadness but a lot of excitement. And, I think caring for animals has prepared me for caring for people as a nurse,” says Christine.
