Junior Livestock Auction Results
Tres Pinos, CA – The 2023 Junior Livestock Auction was a huge success!
Local 4-H and FFA students auctioned off 290 animals Saturday and raised $1.2 million. Most of the money goes back to the kids to cover the cost of raising their animal and purchasing their next one. Some of the proceeds go to the fairgrounds for improvements to the livestock area.
The Heritage Hog auction (a fundraiser for the San Benito County Heritage Foundation) broke all records. The hog, Diesel, fetched $519/pound for a total of $120,000.
Diesel was raised by Madison Kashiwagi. Madison is a member of Cienega 4-H and a junior at Hollister High School. For raising the Heritage Hog, she receives a $1,000 scholarship. Madison says she’ll put the money toward college. She hopes to attend Cal Poly.
